Adobe is launching a new tool aimed at helping creators authenticate their digital art, entering a private beta today with broader availability next year. The Content Authenticity web app will allow artists and creators to digitally sign their work, adding verifiable credentials that remain even if the content is modified or shared as a screenshot. This is part of Adobe’s larger initiative, started in 2019, to support content authenticity, including verifying how and when images and videos were created or edited. Additionally, the tool will allow creators to control whether their content can be used to train AI. Adobe promises to respect those preferences and push others in the industry to follow suit.
The initiative is critical as AI-generated content becomes more widespread and harder to detect. Adobe is also releasing a Chrome extension that will let users see the credentials attached to any content they view. While companies like Google have joined Adobe's efforts, others, like Apple, have yet to commit fully to this approach.
