Meta and OpenAI are advancing their chatbot capabilities by introducing new voice features. This week, Meta's AI will gain the ability to speak, with celebrity voices from Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, John Cena, Awkwafina, and Keegan-Michael Key, adding a personal touch to interactions. The announcement aligns with Meta's plans to reveal various updates at its Facebook Connect conference.
OpenAI is also expanding its voice capabilities. Following the controversial debut of its Advanced Voice Mode (AVM), the feature is now being extended to more ChatGPT users. AVM enables the chatbot to engage in more natural conversations, handle interruptions, and even respond with humor. OpenAI plans to roll out the feature to all ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise and Edu tiers gaining access soon. Along with the expanded rollout, five additional voices will be available, increasing users' customization options.
The race to develop voice-enabled AI is intensifying as companies look to enrich user experiences and redefine digital interactions. Meta and OpenAI are positioning their AI platforms to answer questions and offer services in increasingly dynamic ways, moving beyond text-based interactions to fully integrated, conversational systems.
