Google recently began sending notifications titled “Your Android has great new features” to non-Pixel Android users, including Samsung Galaxy devices. This notification, which appears to have been distributed widely starting in late September, highlights new Android features through a fullscreen experience launched from Google Play services.
The notification introduces users to a carousel of eight features with short descriptions and instructions on accessing them. Although many of these features are not entirely new, they provide useful capabilities such as screen translations, QR code scanning, and tools in Google Lens and Google Photos. For example, features like "Instantly translate what’s on your screen" and "Photo Unblur" have been around since March, while the ability to scan QR codes on your screen was introduced in September. Google Wallet also sees updates, such as adding QR and barcode passes, and Google Messages now includes full-screen effects.
At the end of the carousel, users receive a summary of the new features. However, there isn't an easy way to revisit this page once the notification is dismissed. Each feature includes a "learn more" link that directs users to support.google.com for further details, reinforcing Google's push to make these updates more accessible and understood across Android devices, not just Pixel phones.
