Gecko Robotics is set to expand its work with the U.S. Navy, deploying its AI-powered robots this fall to inspect an aircraft carrier for wear and tear. The company’s advanced technology aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of detecting flaws in military hardware, which is critical for maintaining operational readiness.
Gecko has already worked on various Navy projects, including establishing a maintenance baseline and inspecting welds for the $132 billion Columbia-class nuclear submarine program. The Pennsylvania-based company raised $173 million in funding last year, allowing it to deepen its partnership with the Navy. Gecko CEO Jake Loosararian expressed enthusiasm about helping the Navy keep ships battle-ready and speeding up production on critical projects like the Columbia-class submarine.
The Navy considers the Columbia-class sub a top priority. Gecko’s innovative technology is expected to be vital in ensuring these vessels are built and maintained efficiently. While the company has not disclosed which aircraft carrier it will examine next, the expansion signals an increasing reliance on robotics in military maintenance.
