Apple has been slow to join the AI trend, recently unveiling its version called Apple Intelligence. Originally slated for a late 2023 release, the launch may be delayed, according to a new report. Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy AI will reach 200 million users this year.
Apple's Delayed AI Rollout
Apple Intelligence was anticipated to debut with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September. However, Bloomberg reports that the release might be pushed back by at least a month, with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 potentially delivering these features in October. Even then, not all Apple Intelligence features will be available at launch. Some functionalities, including advanced Siri capabilities, may arrive at the end of the year. Additionally, Apple Intelligence requires devices with an A17 Pro chip, limiting compatibility to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
Samsung's Rapid AI Expansion
In contrast, Samsung has swiftly rolled out its Galaxy AI. Announced just months ago, the AI suite has already reached over 100 million devices. Samsung has successfully integrated many features into older devices as well. New features launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will also be available on older devices with One UI 6.1.1. During the Unpacked event, Samsung announced that Galaxy AI would be available on 200 million devices by year-end. With strong sales of the new foldables and upcoming high-end tablets, Samsung is likely to meet this goal.
The Big Picture
Apple's delayed release of Apple Intelligence underscores the company's cautious approach to AI integration. In contrast, Samsung's rapid deployment and broad device compatibility highlight its aggressive strategy in the AI space. As both companies continue to evolve their AI offerings, users will benefit from increasingly sophisticated technology on their devices.
